September 19, 2008, Newsletter Issue #208: Initial cutting on a cedar hedge

Tip of the Week

Immediately after planting your cedars, look along the hedge and pick out the shortest plant. Cut about 15 cm off the top of this, then cut all the other plants back to the same height. This initial cutting back is important. It will start you with a level hedge and by removing the top, you will encourage side growth which leads to a dense hedge.
